Bandagiriya Raja Maha Viharaya, or simply Bandagiriya temple, is found on the highest peak in all of Hambantota District. At the top you will find ancient stupas, a seated Buddha statue, and ruins dating back to the 2nd century BC scattered across the peak. Set against a stunning backdrop of panoramic views, it’s easy to want to stay here for a little longer to let the tranquility in the air wash over you. For even more picturesque views, stay for sunset before heading back down.
Bandagiriya Raja Maha Viharaya is just outside of Hambantota town and Tissamaharam. You can ask your hotels to arrange a car for you to visit the temple.
