Bundala National Park is one of the best places to go bird watching in Sri Lanka and considered the country’s most important wetland for birds. Set against a backdrop of stunning lagoons and glittering sand dunes, no wonder bird enthusiasts love coming here.
Busy season is from December to March when the highlight of the park is the flock of flamingos that migrate for the season. Visiting when the flamingos aren’t here? That’s ok! There are 200 species of birds to see here including the black-headed ibis, the black-necked stork, and little bee-eaters.
You can easily make a day trip to Bundala National Park from Tangalle, Hambantota, and Tissamaharama. Speak to your hotel to arrange for a safari tour to pick you up from your hotel.
