Ridiyagama is Sri Lanka’s first safari park which just opened in 2016. What’s a safari park? Just think of it as an open zoo without the bars. Enjoy seeing animals within their natural habitats from the safety of your jeep. The first phase, which is open to the public, offers 3 zones: a 35-acre African lion zone, a 54-acre elephant zone, and an 80-acre world zone for herbivorous animals. The second phase is still under construction but will offer African, Asian, and Australian zones with a small animal kingdom.
Currently, you can see animals such as lions, zebras, giraffes, and Bactrian camels among others.
Ridiyagama Safari Park is a quick day trip from Tangalle, Hambantota, and Tissamaharama. You can speak to your hotel to arrange for a safari tour to pick you up from your hotel.
